Goal Difference & Tiebreakers

Goal difference is goals scored minus goals conceded; it's the most common tiebreaker used to separate players level on points in a league or group.

What goal difference is

Goal difference (GD) is simply goals scored minus goals conceded across all your matches. A 3–0 win and a 1–0 win both earn three points, but the 3–0 adds more to your goal difference — so GD rewards winning convincingly and defending well.

How tiebreakers are ordered

When players finish level on points, competitions apply tiebreakers in order. A common sequence is: goal difference, then goals scored, then the head-to-head result between the tied players. The exact order is set by the organizer, and a clear ruleset avoids disputes when the table is tight.
